The main fissure has recorded heights of up to 250’ high, which then forms a river of hot lava that has been going for nearly a month now. Apparently once glowing, the top can cool pretty quickly, which would allow one to walk on it (do not try this at home) while channeling lava in a tube, essentially going do the path of least resistance. The inner tube can stay warm for months after it’s expulsion from the fissure. What an incredible sight to see in person. The color was mesmerizing, like hard to believe fluorescent orange. This is zoomed in but I think I got some good ones. #sonya9 paired with the 70-200 GM was a beast as always! Most shows were between 1/6400 and 1/4000. At 20fps it didn’t take much to fire off 500 images. Glad we did this . I’ll post my fav soon.What an incredible sight to see in person. Always a trip to see that glowing red cloud in the sky. We’ve been working hard to stay on top of the feeding, and are hearing more are being evacuated tonight. I carry a mask with me just in case, but for the most part we do a good job of staying away from it. The work is going well on the Big Island. The Salvation Army is responsible for feeding about 300 displaced victims, 3 times a day. We are focused on partnering with local food vendors to support their business, so its wins for all. Sometimes the vendors can cater the meals, sometimes we need to help move the food. The box we are carrying in this picture is called a “Cambro”, it’s an insulated food carrier and simplifies moving it from point A to point B. We won’t take pictures from the shelters, but this should give you an idea of some of the work we are doing here.
