Ladies and Gentlemen! WE HAVE DONE IT!! Thank you so much to the many of you who gave feedback, shared my videos, posted in forums and relayed information you received from Canon, I can confirm that Firmware update 1.2.0 resolves the banding issue I reported back in November on the Canon EOS R!
I received a lot unfounded criticism from those who didn’t understand the issue, but we stood by the results we were seeing, that it was a real issue, and now Canon has quietly released a firmware issue that resolves it! WELL DONE EVERYONE! This is how powerful social media can be when we work together! If you are an EOS R owner, I would strongly suggest you update to 1.2.0 and reap the benefits of improved sensor performance!
This will be SPOILER FREE, so no need to worry. There was some idiot on Instagram Posting images of it last night that almost ruined it for me. What a loser! Definitely be careful not to ruin the movie going experience for others.
Avengers Endgame is unlike any other Marvel movie ever, because it spends a lot of time building empathy for its characters, and humanizes the losses of Infinity War. This is what makes it so good, we are able to connect with the characters on a level we haven’t been able to in the other films. Marvel gets this, and if more film makers did, movies in general would be so much better.
Endgame is able to make you feel a variety of emotions, just like Alita Battle Angel, There are many sad, happy and funny parts of the movie, again allowing us to connect emotionally with the film itself. Only a few lulls here and there, but I think this is the best Marvel movie as a whole, but remember it stands on the shoulders of all the other 22 films, so it feels inappropriate to judge it on its own, its like “of course it has to be the best”.
Its a very long movie, but worth it. There is an article online about when to take Bathroom Breaks for Endgame, I would recommend reading and memorizing it because it is likely you might need it, and I did end up using it.
I will definitely see it at least one more time in theaters.
Just a heads up & word of warning, Canon has downgraded the hot shoe mount on the new SL3 so there no central pin! What this means is that nearly all non-Canon flash accessories will not work with this camera, you will have to buy a Canon flash or accessory! Unbelievable!
(And it turns out this is the second camera they have done this with, the first was the T7, 3000D or 4000D depending on where you buy it.)
If you are set on a Canon in this price range, get the M50, which has its center pin!
I have a free tutorial on the SL3 coming if you do end up getting it, but I would try to get something else if possible.
The Canon SL3 Crash Course Training Tutorial Video is now is now in production and should be ready in about two weeks. If you would like to be contacted when it is for sale, please let us know in the comment section below.
I have already posted the Camera Operation of this course for FREE on youtube which you can find here: Canon SL3 Tutorial Overview Video.
Many have asked why I give away so much free information, and the main reason is I want to demonstrate I can help you learn your camera fairly quickly, and if you enjoy it, you would want to continue to invest in your Canon SL3 education. Thats all there is to it!
Here is the Cover, more details below!Cameras are very, very complex, but on top of that all, you still need to know about many other things, the photography basics, lighting, composition, digital files, planning & troubleshooting, customizations, menu systems, and then the different philosophies for all the types of real world shooting. It took me about 2 years of trial and error (we didnt even have youtube when I started back in 2003!) and this course is designed to cut that learning curve into a few hours. I promise it will be the best educational investment you can make for your new Canon SL3..
This Course comes with a 1-hr photography crash course that I normally charge $20 for. It will get you up to speed in no time on the photography basics, including shutter speed, aperture, ISO, Depth of Field (DOF) composition, digital files, lighting, compression, histograms and more!

Ive personally seen high dynamic range banding issues now on 3 separate Canon cameras, the 5D4, the EOS R (see my videos in the links below) and now the C700. I have also seen posts of it happening in the C300ii. It seems to stem from very bright images in the left side of the frame.
Ive also been in communication with many customers who have attempted to return their cameras for repair, and the answer many are getting from Canon are now:
“This exceeds the performance abilities of the sensor.”
Ive never heard of such a thing and this kind of banding does not exist on other camera sensors.
Im a big fan of Canon, but what I am not a big fan of is my friends spending ton of money on Canon gear and not being able to use them in a way they would other camera systems.
I am willing to bet the problem likely exists on other Canon cameras as well, though I haven’t tested them yet. Likely to happen soon.
Have you had a banding problem with your Canon? If so which model?
