Wow…what’s the deal- where are the pictures!?!? Ill take some on Sunday…I think.

As I spent a leisurely (and rare) Saturday off and decided to catch some college football. Arkansas was visiting Alabama and made a truly amazing comeback. They were up 38 to 34 with two minutes left in the fourth quarter, facing a third down and about 4 yards. Their two previous plays were running plays; they started the possession with about 5 minutes left in the game. With this third down play, they made an interesting decision to pass, when they had pretty much the most amazing running back tandem in the nation. Alabama was out of time outs….and they decide to pass? Hmmm…. Don’t get me wrong, I am a huge Alabama fan, but lets consider this logic for a second.

The typical amount of time between plays, when the clock is running is about 40 seconds, even though the play clock is 25 seconds, there is some delay between the time the last play ends and the play clock starts. At BYU, we were taught that if we were in such a situation and we were running the clock out, that as many offensive players as possible would “pile on” the running back after the play, without being too blatantly obvious about it. Hey…it takes time to peel players out of a pile, and you can shave another 5-10 seconds off per play. Over 7-8 plays, this is the ball game.

Instead, Arkansas gives the ball back with a full two minutes left, which was barely enough time for Alabama to drive and score the game-winning touchdown. It was a thrilling victory for Alabama, but Alabama didn’t win the game as much as Arkansas lost. Arkansas was in control up until that last third down play.

BYU lost tonight and although I didn’t see it, reading from the stats I saw they had 140 yards in penalties. It can only amount to one thing….mental errors.

I was prepared to hire another expensive programmer this last week to build another website, instead I did some research, found the answers I needed and saved thousands of dollars.

For as much as we work, hustle, sweat and bleed….nothing can compare to sitting back every once in a while and just using your brain. I think we just so involved in the actions and motions of “doing” things that we forget most of our problems can be solved between our ears.
