a low profile, foldable/retractable and magnetic hood isn’t a bad idea but is it necessary? it depends…
re The Shade Blade, Love your innovative approach. Do you have any thoughts about shooting a beach scene, where bright light comes directly from the sun, as well as potentially bright light reflecting from the sand and waves on the shoreline? Do you think multiple sources to shade might be an issue, or is this unlikely in practice? Thanks.
Thank you for your insight Paul. If there are multiple sources, one could apply another blade (2 on the same lens). I do not think it is a portrait photographers solution however.
The survey question about how lens hoods could be improved didn’t include my main gripe: That the twist on/off doesn’t work well on many of my lens hoods. My main concern about a magnetic lens hood is having it reversible and stored on the lens and out of the way. I don’t store them separately from the lens so their size and interchangeability is not a problem.
Thank you for the insight! It seems that nearly all hoods work this way. And I agree about the reversibility of it.
