What is a Better Investment; The Camera Body or a Lens?

The advice I typically give is to: Get the best body you can afford, while still allowing for quality lens purchases once every year. If you are buying just one high quality L lens per year, you are doing really, really great. In 5 years, you will have a very nice assortment of quality glass that you will use for many more years.

Hi Michael! Still working on completing the BCC DVD, but this exact question came to mind today. I still have the 40D I purchased three years ago, and just purchased the 28-70mm L this morning. How soon would you recommend updating my body?

Wonderful video this is always a personal tug of war I deal with. New Glass New body. I always say new bodies are fun but new glass will make you money 🙂

Yes good L glass will outlast any Camera body. The 9 year old Canon 70-200 f/2.8 IS original is 9 years old and still commands $1400-$1500. Canon has gone through a dozen bodies since then. The only commet I have is the 24-70f/2.8 is a fantastic lens on a full frame. i still think for crop body shooters the Canon 17-55 f/2.8 IS is a better choice as 24mm isn’t that wide on a crop body,
