For nearly 130 years the Gibson Family has been capturing the beauty and perils of sea life in the water in the Isles of Scilly in Great Britain. Once a seaman himself John Gibson traded in his seafaring life for a new career in photojournalism. This tradition of capturing the shipwrecks off the coast of Scilly has been passed down for four generations. The collection went up for auction in November and features over 1,000 images of shipwrecks from 1869 through 1997. The images are a wonderful collection of maritime history and are both captivating and terrifying.
