Came across a really terrific little app called “Shotlist Assist”, which is essentially a way for photographers to keep notes on their shooting set ups. The thing that makes it shine is the ability to use the lighting diagram icons to quickly take notes on what type of set up you were using, and then add any camera settings or notes.

While I personally have a good idea of what I like and how I like to set things up, it is an invaluable tool for keeping track of subtle tweaks, showing my assistants complex lighting sets, as well as teaching students. It is so good I am considering including a spot on it on the Lighting DVD. Its one thing to explain something, its another to simply say “Here is the Image and Here is the light set up used to create it.”
