It just so happens I have the example images I used to prove this was a white balance issue, not a flash issue. I repeated the shots on Kelvin White Balance for both. I didnt see any noticeable hue difference in the sky, though on the Flash side, if you look carefully in the foreground you can see where the light from the flash brightened the image. 
Cool, Thank you! It’s nice to know that something so simple can make that much of a difference, for the better. As far as I know I can’t do Kelvin WB adjustments with the XSi, but maybe just using a different setting will make a good difference. I shall play and find out. Thanks again for the new knowledge.
