Using IRIS (Interface region imaging Spectrograph) NASA was able to capture a gigantic explosion on the sun in astonishing detail. Compared to the Solar Dynamics Observatory (launched in 2010) IRIS was able to offer much more detailed images. The video below shows the differences and it’s pretty fascinating stuff.

Although the images look up close and personal, as the article states, it’s crazy to consider that the image is actually “five Earth’s wide and about seven and a half Earth’s tall.”
