Im already getting a few questions about what I think about the 5DIII spec list and what certain things mean….
Obviously we won’t know until tomorrow, but here is a list of things that are catching eyes and what I think they mean (I admit I can be wrong here, these are my best guesses):
‘Intelligent Viewfinder’ – Way back when, there was a Canon camera that could focus based on where you were actually looking. I am not sure what ‘Intelligent’ means here, but if that technology has been around for a while, why the heck not? Would be a bit of a stretch, but at minimum ‘Intelligent’ seems to indicate that the camera may operate based on how the viewfinder is used.
‘High Dynamic Range (HDR) Mode’ – Pretty straight forward- you will be able to take HDR images in Camera.
‘Multiple Exposures’ – Remember, This is listed under ‘High End Features’. Considering that the 5Diii will be able to do HDR in camera, this strongly suggests that the 5Diii will be able to take different exposures of the same shot. Wow. That would be pretty good, but really the only way to do this is to bracket the ISO, otherwise, changing the Shutter Speed or Aperture, you dont have the same image. The technology is there to do this, I think it’s a reasonable (and very cool) new feature.
‘Comparative Playback function’ I think this means side by side comparison of 2 Images. Would make sense if there was a Multiple Exposure mode as I describe above.
File Formats – AVI, RAW, H.264, MOV, MPEG-4 – This is very curious. AVI, H.264, MOV, MPEG-4 are all video formats. To include RAW here, while excluding JEPG, strongly suggests there will be a RAW video format. I would be absolutely EXCITED if this is the case.
You will also all notice the ‘Rate’ button, CF & SD card slots, and what looks like a ‘Processing’ button above the RATE button. I would expect different kinds of in camera processing to be available.
UPDATE: No Video RAW, nor Interesting Viewfinder. All I can say is the image quality better be pretty dang amazing for the $3500 price tag.

I am nearly 100% certain I saw the intelligent viewfinder on the 7D spec today as well when comparing the two. So, I don’t think this will be anything new or cool.
Other than the full frame, I really don’t see much of an upgrade from the 7D, what you all think?
Its a different sensor and processor- so it should be a completely different ball game. I cant really tell until I shoot with it and compare.
