I had a great shoot this afternoon with my new friend Leanne and her kids. It was sooooo nice. I haven’t done a family portrait shoot like this for about 6 months (or so it seems), and dang it felt great. Just been so busy with video production that Ive been focusing on that entirely. My job is very easy when I have such beautiful subjects! It was one of the smoothest shoots Ive ever had and after all this preaching of workflow ratios (for those of you who know what that means), I am happy to say I have officially broken the 1:0.33 barrier! Nearly all of the 150 Shots looked great in camera. I will touch up 8-10 that Leanne wants, but other than that, its straight out of the camera. (This last one was Lollipoped! 🙂 )
Thank you Leanne and kids for a great shoot! I had a wonderful time!
Michael, how can I say thank you? I haven’t even looked through the pictures yet and I’m thrilled! Now if you could come up with some special filter to make me look that way all the time! You are wonderful at what you do. I really would love to see more of your work. Thank you.
Great pics. I just bought Lollipops and WOW they are great!! Another great product from Michael Andrew
What a nice shoot, beautiful family.
Michael, what were you using for light? Was this natural with a reflector? Also what camera and lens were you using? They look so natural and real. Awesome job.
Pictures look great! Question though… 1:0.33??? How does this work? In all my schooling, all ratios are "something to one". No exceptions. Like an overdrive gear is 0.83:1 Or first gear is 3.5:1 So now you have me confused… where do I go from here to get unconfused?
A ratio is simply a comparison of two things and it doesn’t always have to be compared to the number. For example, a TV screen as a 4:3 aspect ratio. Michael talked about workflow ratios at his workshops.
the number "1" I meant. 🙂
What great pictures!!!
Never been to a workshop.
Melody, STRONGLY recommend to attend a workshop with Michael if you get the opportunity. Next best thing is to purchase the DVDs. Enjoy…
I would LOVE to attend a workshop. Only found this place a few weeks after MA had been denied entry to Canada here at Sarnia. Soooo close! The DVD’s are on my Christmas Wish List. I understand ratios perfectly. I use them non-stop in my work. The rules have always been that it is ‘something to 1’. TV aspect ratios are written so anyone can figure out that they are widescreen. A 4:3 aspect ratio would be 1.33:1 as a real ratio. I would think that an aspect ratio would not be used for workflow though. I am thinking that this 1:0.33 is meaning that out of 150 shots, 50 were real keepers without issues. Or a 1/3rd keep rate. 0.33:1 just fits my world of understanding better. And never try to tell my college profs anything different.
1. The relation between two similar magnitudes with respect to the number of times the first contains the second: the ratio of 5 to 2, written 5:2 or 5/2.
