Not to be overlooked, Nikon has a created a little monster of a camera in the D3200. With 24 Mega Pixels, and one of the highest rated sensors of all time, this little guy is a straight up BEAST of a camera. Your first camera should be a very, very important decision, and I must be honest, I typically recommend Canon Cameras mainly because of the lens cost and selection. That said, Nikon is catching up and has many features that are even better than Canon’s, such as the flash systems for example. It has been a wonderful fight to watch and I believe both companies make excellent gear.

I typically study cameras and replace them, but this one I have been hanging on to because the one thing I cannot get over is how small it is. throwing it over my should with a kit lens attached, I cannot even feel it. It is a fantastic hiking and travel camera because of it’s size and weight. Also has many wonderful video shooting features.

2 things I was not a fan of: 1. Limited ISO control (1-stop increments instead of 1/3). 2. Poor Auto White Balance. You will need to adjust with changing light sources.

If you are on an extremely tight budget, but still want the best, the D3200 should be one of your top considerations. My BHphoto link here includes the Kit Lens version, its actually a very good starter lens.
