In my opinion, this is THE stills camera to get right now for Pro shooters. Don’t get me wrong there are countless other awesome cameras that can be used for pro still work, and users should choose accordingly, but in terms of all of the features, this is top of my list. There is plenty of resolution in lower MP cameras, but the ability to crop and the perceived value of super high resolution (45 MP in the case of the R5) carries a certain weight with high end clients. The Eye Detection is fast and accurate, the Dynamic Range and sensor performance is taking a big step forward from previous Canon sensor tech.
The R5 does have a couple weaknesses: The overheating for longer video shooting is well documented. I do not grade this as an A Cam for video. This is light use B roll or short clips. Yes, you can get more milage with an Atomos Ninja V, but it still overheats (speaking from experience). Its also been reported to overheat for stills in some cases.
That said, the slow-motion abilities with full frame, and autofocus are among the best I have seen on any camera, and I use it often for that.
If you are a pro portrait or wedding photographer, or have specific B roll needs for video. Look no further!
