I have a real appreciation for Robert Zemeckis’ films and am glad to see him directing again. “Flight” is a bit different from anything he has ever done that I can recall. Very character driven and Denzel has an incredible performance. This is a movie about self destruction and self-deception, really about a train wreck of a person.

The aircraft crash scene is truly riveting and will have you on the edge of your seat, there is some awesome directing there…feels like you are experiencing it firsthand. Then it seems to coast a bit in the middle, but the ending is gratifying and fulfilling. I wish there was more connection to his decision to finally change, but without saying too much, it was only briefly explained in the beginning. I don’t want to ruin anything.

Definitely recommended as a rental, but if you enjoy a deeply character driven film you will want to see it in theaters.
