It seems to me there is a connection between exercise and our ability to problem solve. I will also say that not all exercise is equal in this respect. Over the past few weeks, I have been taking a 20 minute walk after my work outs just to clear my mind, and suddenly I get all these wonderful ideas. This doesnt happen as much as when I weightlift, long distance run or sprint. It has gotten to the point I have been going to the gym to problem solve rather than to work out. Its very strange…..I wonder why or how this happens?
Anyone else ever experience anything like this?
Each city I live in I have found a place to go just to center. Most of these places, if at all possible, are near water. There are many reasons for this (that I won’t fill up your blog to write), however water changes everything. Perhaps this is why most love walking on the beach. It is possible one’s mind isn’t as flooded when they exercise. They are focused on the exercise allowing ideas to come through. A racing mind is an undisciplined mind. Excercise allows our mind to slow down and our bodies speed up. When the mind slows solutions come. I’m not talking a snail’s pace here, but a clarity comes from calmness. Exercise promotes overall calm.
Great insight A-I didnt know it worked with water, but now that I think about it I used to go down to the river every sunday to just sit and think and I had similar experiences with getting ideas. I believe you are right, there is something calming about large bodies of water. Thanks for the post! M
