Spent my last afternoon in Long Beach Island, NJ doing laundry and cleaning up the car a little. I headed to downtown Philadelphia to meet up with my Uncle Jay. I hear Philly is a great place to spend the 4th of July- quite a lot of history here. Looking forward to a big time Photo Safari tomorrow, take pics of anything and everything worth seeing: Independence Hall, Liberty Bell, Etc. 🙂 Ill be posting thru the weekend but please have a safe and happy 4th of July!

Will you be getting any great Firework Shots?
Good question Kelly, how do you shoot fireworks to make them come out astonishing… Would you give us some tips Michael?
Thanks…
Im working on a video for this. In short, you want: a wide angle lens, tripod, low ISO, slow shutterspeed and to be up wind (otherwise smoke will get into your shots). as always with landscapes shoot at f8 or smaller, and try to avoid camera shake (use a timer or shutter release cable on bulb if possible)
Great, thanks Michael… Won’t the slow shutter speed cause blurryness or streaking?, Looking forward to the video..
Alex, that wont matter much. The fireworks are streaking through the air to start with. Besides, you are shooting at night, most likely into an open dark sky. The burst of light from the explosion will only last about 1/4 of a second. You can pretty much keep the shutter open for 15 to 30 second and still get great shots. That is also another way of getting multiple fireworks into the same shot that were set off after one an other.
Thanks Rob, I will try that…
