K.Cox (01.18.09, 1:29 AM): M- I am so impressed by your newest Crash Course. One week ago I completed an online Photoshop CS4 University Class. Being a type A personality I had a much quicker uptake watching the DVDs the first time versus 14 weeks of text, quizzes and a final exam without being able to visualize some of the more complex aspects of the "Big Pool". I could have saved a lot of money and time had I had my hands on this course 3 months ago! I am so grateful for the RAW, HDR and Cosmetic portions of the DVD. We covered these in the University Online Course, but did not cover the scope or use of the tools as you did. You should be very proud of your hard work! This is exceptional.
michael andrew (01.15.09, 8:37 PM): NAPP is a fantastic resource once a beginner has mastered the basics. M
Alexandra (01.15.09, 3:26 PM): Placing my order now!
Mark Iuzzolino (01.14.09, 8:13 PM): Scott, thanks very much for chiming in. I also have seen the crash course on the 40D and think it's done well. Let me ask you and Michael this. I've been a member of National Association of Photoshop Professionals (NAPP) and they have loads of videos also. Have you tried these? Let me know what you think of that association. I just ordered Michael's new Photoshop Crash Course. Can't wait to see it.
Scott Roeben (01.14.09, 5:20 PM): Oh, and congratulations, Michael on your latest feat! We know how hard you worked on the Photoshop Crash Course, and you're bound to get great reviews and huge sales. Good for you (and good for us)!
Scott Roeben (01.14.09, 5:18 PM): Mark, I can attest to what Michael's saying. His DVDs are amazing, and really will cover more than most classes, for a fraction of the price. You can learn at your own pace, and Michael does an amazing job of paring away the stuff that's a waste of time...it's like the concentrated version, covering just what's useful and relevant. I have the 40D video, and it's not just the best video on the subject out there, Michael's videos are the best instructional videos on ANY subject out there. For what it's worth.
Mark Iuzzolino (01.14.09, 4:15 PM): Michael, thanks for your wisdom. I've been doing what you say and I guess I just need to focus on one particular aspect until I have mastered it and then move on. I'm also considering doing some free work with a professional. I have a Canon EOS 20D and would like to upgrade to the 5DII. Is that a reasonable upgrade? Again thanks for everything.
michael andrew (01.14.09, 3:16 PM): Mark- From what I have heard, most of these online schools are expensive and not that great because they teach cookie cutter type photography (more the fundamentals than the creativity). Many of my students who have taken these courses have said that they have learned more from one of my DVDs than they did in a whole semester of classes. I have never had any formal training myself, most of what I know has come from reading, observing and practice. What I hear you saying is that you want to become a "complete" photographer, which is awesome. What I am saying, is there are easier (and cheaper) ways to do so instead of taking an expensive and long class. I know of a few schools, but from what I understand about them, I would not feel comfortable recommending them. Im sorry I cant give you an answer on this. Hopefully in the future, I will have something I can recommend- but the very best thing you can do, is get as familiar as possible with every function of your camera, and practice, practice, practice.
Mark Iuzzolino (01.14.09, 2:53 PM): Michael, recognizing the efforts this blog must take, I appreciate your timely reply. However, although I'm interested in your 2-3 day workshop, do you have any recommendation for online schools that you have high regard for and that teach everything from the basic to the advanced? Thanks again.
michael andrew (01.14.09, 2:32 PM): HI Julia- Yes, the Photoshop Crash Course will be helpful to you. I cover all of the main concepts as they apply to both Photoshop and Elements. Mark- The mentorships were awesome but became very work and email intensive so we canceled them. Im still working on a replacements solution. We will be having a 2-3 day workshop in Nashville planned for March. Sure hope you can make it.
Julia Shinkle (01.14.09, 9:39 AM): I only have Elements. Could I benefit from this DVD?
Mark Iuzzolino (01.13.09, 1:47 PM): Michael, I'm interested in taking an online course for photography, all facets, camera operation, lighting, getting professional results, etc. Can you recommend a school online? I noticed you had a MA Certified Mentorship. Will you be doing that again? Sorry if this is not the right place to post this. I didn't know where else to do it. Thanks for any information.
