Rumors are cropping up thanks in large part to Nikon’s filing a patent, not for a medium format camera, but a 100mm f/2.5 lens. With rumors that Canon might be jumping into the medium format game perhaps Nikon doesn’t want to be left out. Medium format cameras have a larger sensor and excellent, crisp image quality. Due to expense and slower, bulkier cameras the medium format would be a niche market largely appealing to advanced and professional photographers. The thought is that if Nikon and Canon get in the game of medium format, perhaps the expense of the cameras would come down and be more accessible to a broader audience.
