Had a great mentoring session this evening with Alexandra. This worked out all so well that I have to make an entry of it. Alexandra found me through Youtube and won a Canon 40D DVD training video , one of the first actually, two months ago. She visits and makes comments regularly, so many of you will recognize her name. She has been studying the lessons and enrolled in the Mentorship program, and it just coincidentally happens that she lives in Dallas, where the shoot was this weekend, so we talked about it and I thought it would be a good idea for her to come shoot as my assistant yesterday.

All I can say is WOW. What a great experience for the both of us. She did SOOOOO good and I am very proud of her and her images. Its a ton of work to shoot a wedding, and she really rolled with it. She mentioned something to me that made me feel good and that was there is a difference between learning the lessons on the school or DVD and then actually doing them on a shoot. She knows first hand now, that those composition lessons are very serious and technically very sound. All day we were going back to them over and over and over, textures, thirds, shapes, sense of depth, etc.

We spent time reviewing her images from yesterday and I am completely confident she has everything is takes to go professional if she wanted. It has been a very rewarding experience.

I am thinking about opening this up to more students but I am not sure how it would work. I am curious….who would be interested in coming to shoot a wedding with me as a type of mentorship? Ok…I am just flirting with this idea, so Im not making promises, but would like to know if there is an interest?
