If you have an old smartphone lying around the house and want to inspire photography as an interest in your children, you'll probably love this idea.
Pixlplay™ is essentially a wired camera shaped casing that gives the look and feel of a real camera for your kids. It comes with and app that offers some activities and the casing has clicking sounds and other features to mimic a real camera. The idea is that it will encourage active play and curiosity while repurposing an old phone and/or protecting your current one. It's a cute idea and I think kids would probably love it.
The major toy manufacturers offer toy cameras but often the resolution is terrible and they're not very well made. Even an older smartphone would offer better connectivity and image quality for your budding photographer.
You can get your hands on one for a modest pledge of $25 on
