My Battle with Tinnitus & What has been a God Send
I remember the first moment my tinnitus kicked in (Tinnitus BTW is a ringing in your ear(s) that essentially never goes away. I was under stress, working and it suddenly turned on in my left ear. Im not certain what brought it on as I do not listen to loud music, but I am suspicious it was a deep scuba dive where my ear didn't properly clear.
While it isn’t an actual physical sound, it is perceived as a sound and the first 2-3 weeks of it was unbearable. This is truly a life altering thing when it happens, and the more you stress out about it the louder it seems to get.
I saw an ear specialist and they did some tests. My hearing was fine, and long story short my doctor said nothing could really be done for it. Initially I started using white noise at night in order to sleep and with time, I eventually got used to it.
Something that did help in those initial days was an acupuncturist. He was strangely able to get it to turn off for a few hours that gave me the most amazing relief, but unfortunately it was temporary, lasting only a few hours. I also checked out a number of apps, the one that I used the most was called “Tinnitus Pro” which creates a frequency gap for your specific tinnitus while you listen to music which somewhat masks it away. This also seemed to help, but seemed limited to when I was actually using the app and once I stopped it kicked back in.
Recently I was woken up in the middle of the night by it (very unusual) and the volume was at an 8-9 on a scale of 1-10. It was very stressful.
I realize this is going to sound crazy, but my Dad suggested I check out Youtube for possible advice. Long story short, I eventually stumbled onto this video, which is just some different frequency beeps playing with background white noise. It has actually been very effective in temporarily resetting it, it works better than the acupuncture. Ive only been using it for about a week now, but it has been a small miracle for me that I wanted to share it here:
This is only a half hour, but just wow….music to my ear, and sometimes after playing it goes back down to a volume of 1-2. While it hasn’t brought any permanent relief, I have noticed that the volume is generally lower than usual, and occasionally itll jump from my left ear to my right ear, for 20-30 seconds. My hope is that with time, it will help remap whatever neurotical issue is going on and I can finally get rid of it.
If you have Tinnitius give it a play and let me know in the comments below if it helps!
