Besides being an amazing illustrator, musician, designer, and animator, Thomas Shahan also takes incredible macro photos of arthropods. I really like his website. The design is very clean and graphic and super easy to navigate. It also includes an "about" section where he answers questions about his bug photos. He states he uses a Pentax K-x (which is not an expensive camera) and uses vintage prime lenses with extension tubes to get these incredible shots. He also insists that he never uses any crazy processes to photograph the arthropods such as gassing or freezing. He states he loves these little critters too much to ever harm them. He just uses patience and lots and lots of shots.
