The last 2 days I have been taking my 365 images with film. I know that sounds like insanity, but it was the only way possible to pull the shots off. If they come out it will be totally worth it. Normally, it only takes a week (huh? – what happened to one hour photos?) for a 35mm roll, but because it was a special type of film, I get to wait 2 weeks! Yay!.
Digital cameras have been commercially available (meaning cheap enough to buy) for just over 10 years now. Im curious…when was the last time you shot film?
I still remember buying my last film camera on 12/31/1999 in Singapore with a thought that I would like to save Y2K moment. Well, I had it for 3 months and gave it to my mom. Since then I’ve been using digital camera.
Ahhh… Yesterday. My father in law found his old medium format in the attic and gave it to me. I have been shooting with that quite a bit lately. I love the unpredictable nature of some film stocks especially if they are out of date. Allowing light leaks just for the heck of it. Somehow the last three shots on the roll have a mysterious scratch. I LOVE film. While some people will say all these looks and effects can be acomplished with photoshop, they have to be planned and take hours of work. These are instant "happy mistakes." Can you tell I love film? I even used it at a wedding two weeks ago. I just hate the turn around time. I think I will start developing my own film soon so I do not have to wait so long.
Bought my first digital camera about 8 years ago, the quality wasn’t really up to snuff though, low resolution – so it took me another year and a half to stop shooting with film; finally I took the big jump the year after and sold my hasselblad all together-no regrets…none!
July!! I still love my minolta 35mm :)!!
