This is a lesser known movie about a boy who moves with his family to a nearby concentration camp because his father is an SS solider. I do not believe that this movie is based in reality, but rather it is a symbolic representation of the many different perspectives & emotions native Germans (as well as the rest of the world) had (and possibly continue to have) about the Holocaust. Each of these emotions is embodied in one of the characters, its is easy to see when they associate or talk about the prisoners. Patriotism, Hate, Duty, Denial, etc. The main child’s changes his perspective throughout the movie, from childlike innocence, then selfishness and finally to compassion. I thought it was interesting and different. Makes you think….
