Large-Format Photographer Lands Dream Job With National Park Service
On December 1st, 2015 the National Park Service posted a job listing for someone to provide large-format documentation for the permanent collection at the Library of Congress. The job paid $63,722.00 to $99,296.00 / Per Year.
Over 5,000 people applied but one person landed the job. In July of last year it was announced that Milwaukee, Wisconsin native Jarob Ortiz would start his work.
'CBS This Morning' did an interview with Jarob on assignment at Ellis Island. His job was to document the baggage and dormitory building at the back of the Great Hall. We learn that Jarob is an Air Force veteran who became "obsessed" with photography eight years ago. He was drawn to large-format because of it precision. Using math and detailed specifics Jarob tells the story of our history through beautiful black and white images.
He's very articulate and it's a great interview. Check it out below.
PetaPixel was able to catch up with Jarob via email and they posted another great interview with HERE.
