Lytro Cinema - Could Be A Game-changer
Lytro cameras started out as a bit of a novelty. The founder and CEO Ren Ng came up with the idea after having some difficultly capturing focus on the fleeting smiles of his friends young daughter. A small square camera that could re-focus after the image was captured. The first versions of the light-field camera came out in 2012. They have since released a second generation of the original as well as a virtual reality camera.
Now - they're growing. Big time. Having acquired nearly $200 Million in investor funding their newest idea could be revolutionary. It's a light-field camera for cinema. As the video below explains the possibilities are endless for "never missing the shot" with this technology. If every aspect of every object is recorded and depth-of-field (among other things) can be easily changed after the fact, it has the capability of forever changing the way video/movies are shot.
