Was able to take the 7Dii out today with both the Canon 100-400 f4.5-5.6 L IS as well as the Tamron 150-600 Tamron 150-600 f5-6.3 L IS .

I had heard so many things about the Tamron that I could not wait to try it. Long story short, this was a disappointing experience. It is possible that it is a bad copy of the lens, but it is so soft in the 500-600mm range that the extended reach in that range is not worth the loss of sharpness. It does better in the 100-400mm range, but the Canon 100-400 was just so much more impressive on every level, color, sharpness, bokeh, everything.

This is the Tamron – f6.3, 1/1000, ISO 400 – @600mmHere is the Canon: f5.6, 1/2000, ISO 400, @400mm:The 7Dii itself is freaking awesome. It feels like a machine gun firing on full burst.

All but the very last 2 were shot with the Tamron:This was @273mm on the Tamron, it is in fact much sharper than at 500-600mm, it is just still too soft for me:This is the Canon 100-400 f4.5-5.6 L IS :
